He is missed by so many people who know him. He is spiritual, had a great sense of humor, loved to entertain as he can talk anything under the sun. He loved his wife, his family and friends with all his heart.

Influenced by Atenean values – “ Everything is for God’s greater glory"

Nilo grew up in loving home. He spent his childhood years in Mexico, Pampanga , went back to Manila and studied in Ateneo from grade school to high school. He was influenced by Atenean values – man for others and for the greater glory of God (ADMG). He went to UP in college and took up Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Nilo and Louise

In the Philippines, he worked mostly in hospitality industry and its where he met his wife, Louise. They got married in November 2007 and migrated to Canada in 2010.

Admired the humility, the “volunteerism” spirit, the politeness, and caring nature of the Canadians

Canada that brought out the best in Nilo.He became “at home” in Canada and realized this was what he wanted in life – a simple but purposeful life. He found so much wisdom and compassion working for seniors. He was loved by his tenants, service providers and his employer. He extended help to several Filipino-Canadians who needed jobs and housing. He and his wife will spend their free time helping seniors by providing transportation and help with errands. He also provided financial support to elderly Filipino ladies with limited income and no families to support them.

His love for learning was inspirational

After graduating from college, he went to Cornell in New York where he took up a continuing course in HRM. In Canada, he completed a course in Property Management in just a few months. When he was about 60 years old, he took up Power Engineering course in prestigious, SAIT in Calgary.

Happily married for 33 years and had 4 children : Nicanor ’Nilo’ IV, Cristina ’Makie’, Carmela ‘Melang’ and Concepcion’Tina’.

Born and raised in Anao Mexico Pampanga. Nick was an ex-Jesuit semi Ian and Latin teacher. He graduated at the Ateneo school of Law. He practiced labor law and was a respected negotiator. Once in a while he was a marriage and family counselor whose goals was to lead to God’s teachings. He was well appreciated by his friends and colleagues. Well loved by his family and relatives.

Ma. Ofelia ‘Baby’ Gorres Montinola

Hailed from Jaro Iloilo but born in Bacolod. Baby graduated in Assumption, Iloilo and FEU with a degree in commerce. She was an excellent and hard working entrepreneur. Also, a philanthropist sponsoring seminarians for priesthood, member of the Philippines cancer society amongst others.

History of Philantrophy

Nicanor Vergara Sr. and Florentina David Vergara were Nilo’s grandparents from his father’s side. Nicanor Sr. and Florentina’s children, Guadalupe, Dolores, Miguel, Hilarion, Mariquita, and Nicanor Jr., donated land to a church and schools in Anao, Mexico, Pampanga, and named them after Nicanor Sr. A parcel of land was also donated to where Anao Elementary School is located.

Source of Funds

Current source of funds is from the memorial gift from Nilo’s employer, Midwest (Maclab Enterprises), Nilo’s tenants and friends at Professional Building.

Future funds will be coming from Nilo’s wife- Lourdes’ legitimate portion of the sale of Nilo’s inherited properties – with the support and assistance of Nilo’s sisters and relatives.
